Star Trek XI and Heroes

I just watched the trailer for the new Star Trek movie. It is awesome! The trailer shows the Enterprise (NCC-1701) being built. At the end of the trailer, they show the Starfleet logo and a voice says "Space, the final frontier…". I can't believe that I have to wait until Christmas to see the film, I just can't wait!

Heroes (season 2) just started running here in Hong Kong. It is shown on Now Broadband TV channel no. 528: Star World @ 9pm on Tuesdays. I started watching Heroes when it was first shown here in Hong Kong (same channel, same time, but it was on Wed.) because the blogs and podcasts I listened to seemed to suggest that it was a good series, and it is. I watched season 1 without reading online recaps to find out what happened. The finale(which I'm not going to tell you just in case you've had the displeasure of  not watching Heroes) was really moving. As season 2 is now showing, I will watch it every Tuesday night except for the two weeks after next because I will be in the Philippines on holiday. I might be able to watch it, but I'm not sure at the moment.

MacWorld 2008

I forgot to mention this on the show: Tuesday was the start of the annual MacWorld Expo. Tuesday was also the day Apple CEO gave his keynote presentation. The stuff he announced was great!

First, he announced updates for the iPhone and iPod touch. The updates are great! The option to have multiple home screens, arrange them as you like among others are awesome, but the USD20 price tag for the iPod touch update (which includes 5 new apps) is unreasonable (anyone who wants to sign a petition on this can go here).

Second, he announced a companion product to the Time Machine feature in Leopard, Time Capsule, which you can use to backup wirelessly.

Third, he announced movie rentals on iTunes. You can now rent movies on iTunes, which you have 30 days to start watching it, and 24 hours to finish it.

Fourth , and most importantly, he announced MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is the thinnest notebook computer in the world. When I was watching the keynote, he was showing the thickness on a Sony TZ series, then he showed how thin the MacBook Air was and my jaw dropped and I couldn't close it for about 20 seconds. It goes for USD1,700.

Although, all of these announcements have no relation to me whatsoever (I don't have an iPhone or iPod touch, I don't have Leopard, the iTunes store doesn't exist in Hong Kong and I don't need an ultraportable), these announcements are great. I can't wait to see what Steve has planned for WWDC.

Feedburner (Updated, again)

I would like to let you know that I am changing the feed for the blog. I am switching from the default blogger feed a new FeedBurner feed.

What does this mean for you? Nothing. What about for me? I can track how many people are subscribed to the feed and other cool stuff about FeedBurner that I have yet to discover. all you have to do is subscribe to the new feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/gallardofn and you're good to go. Please note that if you don't change, you will not receive any updates via the old blogger feed (at least I think that's what happens).

I'll try to put a show together over the weekend and release it on Monday (just in time for Blog Action Day). If it doesn't come, try to be patient. It will come in time.

Update: The Mac OS X dashboard widget and AvantGo channel won't work either

Update: The dashboard widget and AvantGo channel should work as normal

Interesting photos…

Here are several photos I have posted to My Flickr page recently:

Here is a nice photo of a sunset (the special effects were not added, I took it like that). I took this on my way back home after a walk.Sunset through the trees

Updated: Name change

Happy New Year, everybody. There hasn't been much activity on the blog recently because of my mid-year exams. Anyway, they're almost finished now and so far, I think I've done pretty well.

The main thing I wanted to talk to you about is the name of the Podcast and Blog. I've noticed that the "Gallardo Family Newsletter" Podcast doesn't really make covering what's happening in my family the main idea. So I would like to propose a name change: There is a new poll on the sidebar. To vote, choose either "Yes" or "No" and click "Vote" just either click the "YES" or the "NO". Voting will be open until the end of February noon on the 29th of February. If you have other comments or have a name you would like to propose, please send them to gallardofn@gmail.com or post them in the comments section of this post. For a fair count, I will not vote on this matter and leave the decision to you, the listeners/readers.

Thank you for your attention.

Update: I have just discovered that Blogger has a poll feature, so I took down the old poll and put up a new one. I also updated the voting instructions. At the time of deletion, no one had voted yet, therefore the final tally is not affected.
